Walk-On & Clip Overlay

This is the hosted copy of the GRiMbot technical manual. Use the table of contents to open any page in the manual.

Walk-On & Clip Overlay

Open Overlays > Stage & Cards > Walk-On & Clip Overlay to set the card appearance and wording used with Walk-On, Shoutout, and Twitch Clip playback.

This page controls card presentation. Walk-On triggers live under Community > Arrivals > Walk-Ons. Shoutout behavior lives under Community > Arrivals > Shoutouts. Twitch Clip selection and playback controls live in Overlays > Alerts & Clips > Twitch Clips.

Place the stage objects

In Overlays > Browser & Chat > Overlay Browser > Layout, assign the objects you use:

Object Default size
Walk-On 1200 by 840
Shoutout 1200 by 840
Twitch Clip 960 by 540

The layout editor may move and resize each object. OBS must load that overlay URL before a card or clip can appear.

Shared appearance

The Appearance tab controls the font, headline and subline sizes and colors, bold text, card background, background opacity, border, border color, avatar size, and padding. These settings apply to all three card types.

Changes save about half a second after the last edit. Wait for saving to finish before running an overlay test.

Card tabs and variables

Each card tab has its own Headline, Subline, and Show avatar setting.

Card Available variables
Walk-On {display_name}, {login}, {custom_text}
Shoutout {display_name}, {login}, {clip_title}, {game_name}, {clip_url}
Clip {display_name}, {login}, {clip_title}, {game_name}, {clip_url}, {creator_name}

GRiMbot replaces known variables when the card plays. Leave the Subline empty if the card should have no second line.

If AI Integration is installed, each card type may use an AI headline, AI subline, and prompt hint. If the AI does not return text, GRiMbot uses the fixed text from the same tab.

Preview and test

Preview shoutout, Preview walk-on, and Preview clip change only the sample shown inside this settings window.

Test clip on overlay sends a sample Twitch Clip card and playback request to the live overlay. Save completion, the Twitch Clip object, the OBS Browser Source, and Browser Source audio all affect this test.

Testing boundary: The local previews do not contact Twitch or OBS. Test clip on overlay checks the clip display path. It does not test Walk-On detection, a Shoutout request, or Twitch event delivery.

Verify the result

  • Confirm the required stage object is assigned and visible.
  • Confirm the card wording uses variables listed for that tab.
  • Confirm the Browser Source canvas matches the overlay canvas.
  • Check Control audio via OBS for clip sound.
  • Use the local preview first, then use Test clip on overlay for the Clip tab.

If the local preview is wrong, review the Appearance and card tabs. If the local preview is correct but OBS is blank, refresh the Browser Source cache and check System > Connection Status. If a real Walk-On or Shoutout does not fire, inspect its separate behavior settings rather than changing this page.
