Ad Breaks

This is the hosted copy of the GRiMbot technical manual. Use the table of contents to open any page in the manual.

Ad Breaks

Open Stream → Channel → Ad Breaks. This is the default GRiMbar path. Organize GRiMbar can move the window.

Ad Breaks watches Twitch ad events. It can warn chat before Twitch's next scheduled ad, announce when a break begins, and answer Chat Messages that mention ads while a break is active.

This window does not start, stop, snooze, or schedule Twitch ads.

Before you start

  • Authorize the broadcaster in System Status.
  • The broadcaster token needs channel:read:ads.
  • Re-register EventSub after authorization so GRiMbot receives ad break events.
  • Connect the bot account to chat if GRiMbot should post replies, warnings, or announcements.

If the General tab says GRiMbot cannot see ad breaks, open System → System Status, re-authorize the broadcaster, then re-register EventSub.

Set up Ad Breaks

  1. Turn on Ad Breaks automation on the General tab.
  2. Configure the Chat replies tab.
  3. Configure the Warnings tab.
  4. Set the interval used in chat copy on the Schedule tab.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Test reply now if you want to send a sample reply to Twitch chat.

General tab

Control or status What it does
Ad Breaks automation Master switch for Ad Breaks automation. It is off by default.
Stream status Shows whether GRiMbot reports the stream as live.
Break status Shows whether an ad break is active, its remaining time, and whether Ads Manager or a manual action started it.
Next Twitch ad Shows the next ad time returned by Twitch.
Refresh status Reloads live break and Twitch schedule data.
Open System Status… Opens broadcaster authorization when the required ads scope is missing.

Chat replies tab

Control What it does Default and limit
Reply during an active ad break Replies only when EventSub reports that a mid-roll is active and a Chat Message contains a saved keyword. On by default.
Reply template Sets the chat line. Maximum 450 characters.
Global cooldown (sec) Limits how often any matching Chat Message can cause a reply. 45 seconds. Range 5 through 600.
Per-user cooldown (sec) Limits repeat replies to one viewer. 120 seconds. Range 10 through 3,600.
Keyword field and Add Adds a lowercase matching word or phrase. Up to 40 keywords. Each is stored at no more than 64 characters.
Remove Removes one keyword. The default keywords return if the saved list is empty.
Test reply now Sends a sample reply using the current saved settings. It does not require an active break. The sample user is viewer.

Single-word keywords match whole words. Phrases and hyphenated keywords match anywhere in the Chat Message.

Warnings tab

Control What it does Default and limit
Warn chat before the next scheduled ad Posts a warning before next_ad_at from Twitch. Off by default.
Seconds before next ad Sets how early to post the warning. 45 seconds. Range 10 through 300.
Warning message Sets the warning text. Maximum 450 characters.
Announce in chat when an ad break begins Posts when EventSub reports the start of a break. Off by default.
Begin message Sets the announcement text. Maximum 450 characters.

Templates can use {user}, {seconds_remaining}, {interval_minutes}, and {duration_seconds} where the event supplies those values.

Schedule tab

Interval records how often you run mid-roll ads. Presets are 10, 20, 30, and 60 minutes. Custom… accepts 5 through 120 minutes.

Twitch does not return Ads Manager frequency. GRiMbot uses this number only for {interval_minutes} in chat text. The read-only Twitch panel shows next ad, last ad, upcoming duration, pre-roll-free time, and snoozes.

Check the result

  • Refresh status shows the live state and Twitch ad schedule without an authorization error.
  • Test reply now posts a sample line in chat.
  • A matching Chat Message during an active break receives one reply, subject to both cooldowns.
  • Enabled warnings and begin announcements appear when Twitch supplies the required schedule or EventSub event.

If something fails

  • Re-authorize the broadcaster and re-register EventSub when channel:read:ads is missing.
  • Check the bot chat connection if a test reply fails.
  • Confirm that Ad Breaks automation and the specific reply or warning option are on.
  • Confirm that the Chat Message contains a saved keyword and both cooldowns have expired.
  • If next ad is blank, Twitch may not have returned an Ads Manager schedule.
  • If live status is wrong, check GRiMbot's Twitch connection in Connection Status.

Click Save after any change. Closing the window does not save the current draft.
