First login

Purpose and scope

This procedure verifies the GRiMbOS administrator credentials and introduces the desktop controls needed for setup. It does not authorize Twitch accounts.

Prerequisites

  • ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD have been changed to unique values in the local .env file.
  • GRiMbot has been started or restarted after those changes.
  • A browser is available on the GRiMbot machine.
  • You know the GRiMbOS username and password set in .env.

The packaged launchers bind to 127.0.0.1. Open this address in a browser on the GRiMbot machine:

http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin

The current packaged release does not supply a supported two-PC deployment. Use the local browser.

Procedure

  1. Confirm that unique ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD values are saved in .env.
  2. Restart GRiMbot if either value changed while it was running.
  3. Open http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin on the GRiMbot machine.
  4. Enter the GRiMbOS username from .env.
  5. Enter the GRiMbOS password from .env.
  6. Clear Remember me on this device if the browser profile or computer is shared.
  7. Click Sign in.
  8. Open System → Connection Status.
  9. Open System → Help and confirm that its topics load.
  10. Open System → SETUP BOT if first-time Twitch setup is not complete.

Settings and choices

Remember me on this device stores the GRiMbOS username and password in that browser's local storage. When cleared, the credentials remain only in the active page state.

[!SECURITY] Select Remember me on this device only in a browser profile that you control. The stored value includes the password. Signing in uses HTTP Basic authentication for admin API requests.

The GRiMbOS username and password are not Twitch credentials. Twitch authorization is completed separately in SETUP BOT.

Desktop controls

The taskbar is the GRiMbar. Use it to open GRiMbOS apps.

Control Result
Drag a title bar Moves the window.
Drag a window edge or corner Resizes the window.
─ Minimizes the window to the taskbar.
▢ Maximizes the window or restores its previous size.
✕ Closes the window and discards unsaved edits.

[!IMPORTANT] Click Save in an app before closing it. GRiMbOS does not ask for confirmation before discarding unsaved edits.

Window size and position are remembered per app. Message boxes remain centered and cannot be resized.

Expected result

GRiMbOS opens without an authentication error. Connection Status, Help, and SETUP BOT can be opened from the GRiMbar.

Verification checklist

  • [ ] The browser reaches the expected admin address.
  • [ ] The sign-in form accepts the GRiMbOS credentials.
  • [ ] The GRiMbar is visible.
  • [ ] Connection Status opens without an error dialog.
  • [ ] Help opens and displays topics.
  • [ ] SETUP BOT opens when selected.

Failure handling

If the browser cannot reach the address, verify that GRiMbot is running. On Windows, check the GRiMbot console. On a Debian installation, run:

systemctl status grimbot

If sign-in returns HTTP 401, the username or password does not match the active GRiMbot configuration. Check the configured ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD on the bot machine. Do not substitute Twitch credentials.

If you changed the values while GRiMbot was running, restart GRiMbot and try again.

If another computer cannot open /admin, that is expected with a packaged launcher. Use the local browser. Do not expose the admin port as a workaround.

Security and data notes

  • Do not save credentials in a shared browser profile.
  • Use Log out and clear site data when removing saved credentials from a machine you no longer control.
  • Do not expose /admin directly to the public internet.
  • Keep .env out of screenshots and support posts.
