Opening Chat

This is the hosted copy of the GRiMbot technical manual. Use the table of contents to open any page in the manual.

Opening Chat

Bot → Chat → Opening Chat records the first three eligible people who send a Chat Message during a live Stream Session. It grants each place's configured Reward and posts all three announcement lines after third place fills.

Opening Chat is enabled by default.

Default Rewards

Place XP Purple buds Green buds
1st 20 10 0
2nd 10 0 10
3rd 5 0 5

Each Reward value may range from 0 to 10,000. XP and buds require Games Integration. Without that plugin, GRiMbot still records and names the winners, but it grants no XP or buds.

Configure Opening Chat

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Set Enabled.
  3. Edit the announcement line for each place.
  4. Set the XP, Purple buds, and Green buds Reward for each place.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Go live and watch Live for the three places.

Each announcement line may contain up to 450 characters. A blank line is replaced with that place's default message when settings are saved.

Reset defaults restores all three messages and Rewards. It keeps the current Enabled setting.

Eligibility and cadence

Any Chat Message can claim a place, including plain text, an emote, or a command. Each eligible Twitch user can claim only one place in a Stream Session.

The broadcaster and known bot accounts are skipped. Messages received during the short period before GRiMbot confirms that the stream is live can still count once the Stream Session is established.

GRiMbot grants a place's Reward when that place is claimed. It does not post the place's announcement line at that time. After third place fills, it posts all three lines together and marks the Stream Session as announced.

If the Stream Session ends before all three places fill, the saved result remains incomplete and no grouped announcement is posted.

Message stand-ins

Stand-in Value
{user} Winner's display name.
{xp} XP configured for that place.
{buds} Purple buds or Green buds configured for that place.

Tabs and verification

Failure checks

  • If no places fill, confirm Enabled and check that GRiMbot shows the stream as live.
  • If Rewards stay at zero, confirm that Games Integration is installed and working.
  • If names are recorded but chat stays quiet, check whether all three places filled.
  • If a saved line returns to its default, it was blank when saved.
