Organize GRiMbar

Organize GRiMbar changes the category, submenu, order, and icon arrangement used by the GRiMbar start menu.

Open GRiMbar > System > Organize GRiMbar.

Changes save automatically after a short delay. The lower-right status reads Saving… while a save is pending or running, then Saved after the server accepts it.

Window layout

Area Purpose
Categories Shows the GRiMbar tree, editable Core categories, locked Games and Plugins branches, System, and submenus.
Center pane Shows folders and Core windows in the selected location. Its header displays the current path.
Unassigned Shows Core windows that are not present in any editable GRiMbar category.
Search… Filters the Unassigned list by window name.

Leaving a Core window in Unassigned hides it from GRiMbar. It does not uninstall or disable the window.

Add a Core window to a category

  1. Select the destination category or submenu in Categories.
  2. Find the window in Unassigned.
  3. Double-click the window.
  4. Wait for the status to read Saved.
  5. Open GRiMbar and confirm the window appears in the selected location.

If the GRiMbar root or a locked branch is selected, double-clicking an unassigned window reports that a category or submenu must be selected first.

Move or remove a Core window

To move a window:

  1. Select its current category or submenu.
  2. Select the window in the center pane.
  3. Click Move to….
  4. Choose a Destination category.
  5. Click Move.
  6. Wait for Saved.

To move a window to Unassigned, choose Unassigned as the destination.

You can also double-click a Core window in the center pane to move it to Unassigned. The Remove button does the same thing.

Reorder items

Select a folder or Core window and use the up or down arrow buttons. You can also drag an item onto another item of the same kind in the same pane.

Folders reorder with folders. Windows reorder with windows. Dragging does not move an item to another category.

The displayed order becomes the GRiMbar menu order after the save completes.

Create and edit folders

Current selection New folder command
GRiMbar root New Category creates a top-level category.
Category, submenu, or System New Submenu creates a submenu under the selected parent category.

Category names must not be empty or duplicate another category name. Plugins, Games, and System are reserved names.

Use Rename to change an editable category or submenu name. Use Delete to remove one. The confirmation states that its windows will move to Unassigned.

Deleting a category or submenu removes that folder from the layout. Its windows remain available in Unassigned.

Change icons

Select a category, submenu, or window and click Change Icon.

  • Select the GRiMbar root and click Change Icon to change the taskbar GRiMbar icon.
  • Select an editable folder to change its icon.
  • Select a Core window to change its icon.
  • Select a Games or Plugins folder to change that folder's icon.

The Games and Plugins layout remains locked even though its folder icons can be changed.

You can also right-click a window in GRiMbar, a category folder window, or a desktop shortcut and click Change Icon.

Locked branches and boundaries

Games and Plugins are marked locked. Their contents come from installed packages. Organize GRiMbar cannot create submenus in those branches, rename them, reorder their contents, move their windows, or remove their windows.

Use Add/Remove Plugins for standard plugins. Use the Games DLC Manager for Game DLC and item packs.

System is fixed as the bottom GRiMbar category, but its Core windows and submenus can be arranged.

Only Core window identifiers are accepted in the editable layout. A Core window can appear only once.
