Add Media

This is the hosted copy of the GRiMbot technical manual. Use the table of contents to open any page in the manual.

Add Media

Open Media > Library > Add Media to add files to the Media Library. You can also click + Add Media in Media Library or Add Media in File Browser.

Supported files

Kind File extensions
Video .mp4, .webm, .mov, .m4v
Audio .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .m4a, .aac
GIF .gif
Archive .zip, .rar, .7z, .tar, .tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.bz2, .tbz2, .tar.xz, .txz

The default maximum is 100 MB for each uploaded file and each extracted media file. One upload may contain no more than 100 selected files. An archive may contain no more than 200 supported media files.

Archive support depends on server tools. RAR extraction needs the unrar tool. 7z extraction needs the py7zr package. Multi-volume RAR files are not supported.

Add local files

  1. Click File.
  2. Select one or more supported media or archive files.
  3. Repeat File if you need to add more items.
  4. Edit each Label. Archive member labels come from their filenames and cannot be edited before extraction.
  5. Click × to remove an unwanted row.
  6. Click Upload.

New local files start enabled at 50 percent volume. Videos start on Standard Video. GIFs start on GIFs. Change these settings later in Media Library.

Import from a URL

Control Accepted address
Import GIPHY A GIPHY GIF, sticker, or clip page, or a supported direct GIPHY media address.
Import ViralMemeClips A ViralMemeClips clip page.
Import Blerp A Blerp soundbite or video page.

Imported GIPHY GIFs and stickers go to GIFs. Stickers go into the Stickers folder. GIPHY clips with sound and ViralMemeClips videos go to Video. Blerp soundbites go to Audio, and Blerp videos go to Video.

The importer downloads the media into GRiMbot storage. It does not keep the remote page as the playback source. If the site rejects the address, removes the item, or does not provide the expected media, the import fails and reports the reason.

Results and failures

Add Media processes valid items even when another item fails. The result reports how many clips were uploaded and lists up to three skipped items in the summary.

An item may be skipped because it has an unsupported extension, exceeds the size limit, has no label, cannot be read, uses an invalid web address, or comes from a corrupt archive. An archive with no supported media is rejected.

If every item fails, nothing is saved. Correct the reported problem and upload the failed item again. Do not repeat successful rows, because that creates another Media Library entry.

Verify the upload

  1. Open Media > Library > Media Library.
  2. Click Refresh if the new clip is not listed.
  3. Select the correct Video, Audio, GIFs, or destination folder.
  4. Open Edit and confirm the label, volume, enabled state, and overlay target.
  5. Click Test while the matching OBS Browser Source is active.
