Shoutouts
Community → Arrivals → Shoutouts sends a Twitch shoutout and can show a card with a Twitch clip on the shoutout overlay. The !so Core Command also posts the configured chat line.
Required Twitch access
The account used for shoutouts needs the moderator:manage:shoutouts scope. If the bot account sends the shoutout, it must also be a moderator for the channel. Clip lookup needs a valid Twitch token.
Twitch applies its own shoutout eligibility and cooldown rules. GRiMbot reports Twitch's rejection instead of bypassing those limits.
Default settings
| Setting | Default | Limit or behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Send Twitch Helix shoutout | On | Sends Twitch's built-in shoutout. |
| Show on OBS shoutout overlay | On | Queues the shoutout card. |
| Play a Twitch clip on overlay | On | Tries to attach a clip. |
| Clip selection | Random clip from their channel | A Favorite Streamers showcase clip takes priority when one exists. |
| Text before clip | 2.5 seconds | 0 to 30 seconds, in 0.5-second steps. |
| Clip duration | 20 seconds | 5 to 60 seconds. |
| Text after clip | 2 seconds | 0 to 30 seconds, in 0.5-second steps. |
| Chat message | Shoutout to {login}! Follow at https://twitch.tv/{login} |
Posted as the reply to !so. The manual Send shoutout control only returns this text to the window. |
| Append clip URL in chat | Off | Adds the chosen clip URL when a clip was found. |
The saved overlay volume defaults to full volume. The current Shoutouts window does not expose a volume control.
Clip selection
Every clip selection first checks Favorite Streamers for saved showcase clips. If one or more exist, GRiMbot picks one at random and does not use the selected random or specific clip setting.
Random clip from their channel asks Twitch for a random clip only when no Favorite Streamers showcase clip exists.
Specific clip ID uses the clip slug from a Twitch clip URL only when no Favorite Streamers showcase clip exists. If Twitch cannot find that clip, the card can still appear without clip playback.
No clip shows the card without a clip.
Set up the overlay
- Copy the browser source URL shown in Shoutouts.
- Add it to OBS at full canvas size with a transparent background.
- Open Overlays → Stage & Cards → Walk-On & Clip Overlay to set the shoutout headline, subline, and card appearance.
- Click Test overlay.
- Confirm that the sample card appears in OBS.
Test overlay does not call Twitch's shoutout API.
Send a shoutout
- Enter a Twitch login or click Look up.
- Click Send shoutout.
- Confirm the result message.
- Check Twitch's built-in shoutout notice and the OBS overlay for the actions you enabled.
The usual chat procedure is !so <login>. It runs the shoutout and posts the configured Chat message as its reply. Access to that Core Command is set in System → Core Commands.
Chat stand-ins
| Stand-in | Value |
|---|---|
{login} |
Twitch login in lowercase. |
{display_name} |
Twitch display name. |
{LOGIN} |
Twitch login in uppercase. |
{DISPLAY_NAME} |
Twitch display name as returned by Twitch. |
Failure handling
- If Twitch rejects its built-in shoutout but the overlay is enabled, GRiMbot still queues the overlay and records the Twitch error in its logs.
- If the built-in shoutout is the only enabled action, a Twitch rejection fails the request.
- If no target user is found, no shoutout runs.
- If no clip is found, the card can still run without a clip.
- If no token or broadcaster ID is available, the window reports the error.
- Shoutout settings stay on disk until changed. The source defines no automatic expiry or history-retention setting.
